PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour High School graduate Patricia Jones made it official recently by signing a letter of intent to participate in the sport of cheer while pursuing a college degree in biology at Alderson Broaddus University.

Jones earned four varsity letters at PBHS in cheer, to cap off a consecutive seven years of cheering on her schools’ teams while taking part in competitions on the courts and fields.

Jones was also a three-year cheer team member in middle school.

“I love cheering for everything, but stunting is my favorite part,” Jones said. “The competitions are exciting, and it’s an experience you will always remember.

“It was an honor to have been part of Barbour County athletics. I hope anyone doing sports there enjoy it as much,” she said.

Jones said she likes that ABU is close to home, and continuing to participate in sports is a plus.

“AB is close, and it’s a beautiful campus,” Jones said on signing day. “Everything there makes me want to stay. Cheering there is a bonus, and I can’t wait to start.”
