PHILIPPI — At a ceremony held in the Philip Barbour High School commons area recently, senior David Shriver signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Alderson Broaddus University.

Lettering for three years in basketball, and four years in baseball, Shriver has been busy at the Colts’ Corral. In his junior year he set a new single-season 3-pointers made mark, which he still holds, and with nearly 200 treys over his prep career, he is PB’s all-time leader from behind the arc.

Shriver was a pivotal force in helping PB make back-to-back state playoff appearances, while the Colts picked up their first-ever win in the tournament by edging Class AA Bluefield, 57-56, in Charleston during his final run for PBHS.

“I just love the sport and dreamed about being a player when I was a kid,” Shriver said. “I like how it brings people closer and makes a brotherhood with you and your teammates.

“It’s been an honor to be a Colt in Barbour County with all the support of our boosters and how much our county supports us. It’s been an honor to be a part of a great team and play in front of a great county,” said Shriver.

Like many incoming freshman, Shriver is undecided on declaring a major at this time, but he is enthusiastic about attending Alderson Broaddus.

“I felt like that school fit me best, and I’ve been watching them ever since I was little,” he said. “It’s close to home and my family have great memories up there. The coaching staff is good and they have and run a good program up there.”
