Regional game delayed by rain

MOOREFIELD — The Yellow Jackets haven’t given up a hit in the contest yet, as Moorefield holds a 3-0 advantage over Notre Dame in the opening game of the Class A Region II Championship Tournament. The game was delayed due to rain in the sixth inning Monday and will continue today in Clarksburg.

“Garrett Haggerty threw well, striking out 11 of 16 outs,” MHS coach Wade Armentrout said. “Blake Watts had a sac fly and Jake Ours had a 2-out RBI single in the third inning when we scored our 3 runs.”

Haggerty pitched a gem for 5 1/3 innings, giving up 4 walks and zero hits while striking out 11 batters in the process. Derek Hoyt tossed 2/3 of an inning in relief before the rain came. He gave up no hits and struck out 1 batter during his time on the mound.

At the plate for Moorefield, Haggerty, Watts and Jake Ours were credited with RBIs, while the runs were scored by Brent Moran, Grant Keller and Haggerty.

MHS has 4 hits in the contest, with singles by Ours and Isaac Van Meter and doubles by Thomas Williams and Keller.
