Annual JAKES Day set for Saturday at Mountaineer Chapter clubhouse
BEVERLY — The Tygart Valley Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation will host its annual JAKES Day Saturday at the Mountaineer Chapter of Izaak Walton League of America’s clubhouse, located approximately 6 miles straight up Files Creek Road in Beverly.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the event starting at 9 a.m. Participants must register before 9 a.m. to be eligible for prizes at the end of the event.
JAKES stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship. This free event is open to children ages 6-17. There will also be an activity room available for children ages 3-5.
The NWTF started the JAKES program as a way to give kids the chance to explore their outdoor world. Learning stations for the day will include fishing, skeet shooting, archery and more. Any catfish caught can be fileted and can be taken home.
The event will close around 2 p.m., followed by prizes being given away to some lucky participants. Please dress appropriately for the day’s weather, with rubber boots recommended. This event will be held rain or shine.
You may call the clubhouse at 304-636-4140 for directions or for other information.
Lunch will be provided by the Mountaineer Chapter of IWLA for all attending the event.
