District 8 tourney to begin
Elkins, TV, Belington and Tucker take the field today in Summersville
SUMMERSVILLE – Four area 11-12 year-old Little League All-Star teams will take to the field today for the start of the District 8 Tournament being held at Nicholas County Veterans Memorial Park.
Elkins, Tygarts Valley, Belington-Barbour County and Tucker County are part of the eight-team tournament. The champion and runner-up advance to the state tournament.
Action gets underway at noon today when Tucker County faces Craigsville (Cherry District), while Belington faces Cowen at 2 p.m., Elkins meets host Summersville at 4 p.m. and Tygarts Valley squares off against Braxton County in the 6 p.m. contest.
Two elimination games and two winner’s bracket contests will take place on Sunday, starting at noon.
The tourney will run through Wednesday.
Tracy Carr, Mike Scott and Mark Hinzman make up the coaching staff.
The Belington-Barbour County team members are Nathan Bennett, Garrett Cross, Jack Wilson, Adam Bailey Jaiden Bailey, Joseph Kittle, Zach Bennett, Grant Harris, Hunter Evick, Dravon Brady and Parker Herron.
Mark Harris is the team manager. He will be assisted by Dustin Bennett, B.J. King and Charlie Wilson.
