Duo taking part in softball event
B-U’s Rohr, Lewis County’s Campbell training at Dodgertown
TENNERTON — Buckhannon-Upshur’s Alyssa Rohr and Lewis County’s Payton Campbell are taking part in the Softball Elite Development Invitational (EDI), operated by Major League Baseball and USA Softball, at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla,
The event got underway on Friday and concludes on Tuesday.
Rohr will be a freshman at B-UHS this upcoming season. She helped lead the B-UMS girls softball team to a 12-6 mark this past spring.
The shortstop-pitcher batted ,500, scoring 32 runs and driving in 15 runs. On the mound, Rohr was 8-6 with a 1.74 ERA and two saves.
Campbell, meanwhile, is a rising junior for the Minutemaids. She was an honorable-mention Class AA all-state selection this past season.
The Softball Elite Development Invitational hosts approximately 90 top-level softball players (18 and under) from diverse backgrounds for a spring training-like, one-week development.
Players will be instructed by elite coaches and players, including program, Olympians and members of the USA Softball National Team.
Olympic gold medalists Jennie Finch and Jenny Topping are among the long list of elite instructors.
Former Marshall standout Erika Bennett, a member of the Mexican Women’s National Team, will also be on hand.
