Elkins Middle harriers host invitational meet

ELKINS — The Elkins Middle School cross country teams hosted a season-opening meet Saturday at the Davis & Elkins College course.

Both squads placed second to Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School in the team scoring.

Robert L. Bland and South Harrison also competed but didn’t field full squads.

Isaac Anger was the top finisher for the Hornets, turning in a time of 14:33.10 to place second behind B-UMS’ Jordan Gillum (14:14.50).

Other EMS finishers included Cayden Hensley (ninth), Gavin Brown (13th), Tyler Burda (14th), Nicholas Cooper (20th), Andreas Masten (21st), Jansen Joss (22nd), Isaiah Parlock (24th), Zach Dilly (25th) and Brian Jones (26th).

Samantha Sproul led the Lady Hornets with a second-place showing in a time of 16:26.80.

The Little Lady Bucs’ Cadence Vincent cleared the course in a time of 15:54.30 to take individual honors.

Other EMS finishers were Mallory Bennett (fifth), Alexandra Barrickman (10th), Gianna Backus (17th), Jailyn Pauley (24th), Jaida George (28th) and Grace Winans (29th).

Elkins will return to action Wednesday at the Taylor County Middle School Invitational.
