Tigers roll past East in opener

Talkington rushes for 147 yards, two scores in 32-7 win


FAIRMONT –Thomas Talkington rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns as Elkins rolled to a 32-7 opening-season win over East Fairmont Friday night in Big 10 Conference play at East-West Stadium.

The Tigers used a powerful first-half performance on both sides of the ball to race out to a comfortable 26-0 advantage at intermission.

A pair of Talkington scores, from 7 and 8 yards, and a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jeremy Coger allowed Elkins to storm out to a 20-0 edge.

Daniel Romans’ 3-yard scoring scamper at the 6:24 mark of the second quarter capped of the scoring barrage for Elkins in the first half.

The Tigers dominated the first two quarters of play, finishing with 12 first downs compared to just one for the Bees.

East Fairmont managed just four yards of total offense in the first half.

Elkins pushed the deficit to 32-0 at the 6:24 mark of the second quarter when T.J. Guire ran in for a 3-yard score.

The Bees finally got on the board when Mason Postlethwait ran in for a score with 8:42 remaining in regulation.

Postlethwait finished the contest with 52 yards on the ground.

Luke Pollock completed 7 of 12 passes for 95 yards for East Fairmont.

Guire added 77 yards rushing for the Tigers, who will entertain rival Philip Barbour next Friday in the home opener at Wimer Field.
