Bucs knock off Bearcats, 4-1
TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boys soccer team claimed a 4-1 win over Grafton Tuesday at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.
The Bucs are now 4-5 overall and on the season and 3-0 in Big 10 action.
B-U took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute on Alek Seech’s goal, which was assisted by Caden Andrick.
Just 3:00 later, Ryan Hurst took a through ball from Andrick to make it 2-0 at the intermission.
A self goal by the Bearcats extended the B-U advantage to 3-0 in the 41st minute when a corner kick was deflected off a Grafton player into the net.
Gabe Wolverton scored Grafton’s lone goal before Tyler Sandreth added a score for the Bucs with 6:00 left to play.
B-U held a 12-4 advantage on shots on goal and 7-1 edge on corner kicks.
Logan Kelley recorded three saves in the win, while Alec Correia had eight stops for the Bearcats.
“We tried a few adjustments to our lineup to create some more depth and balance,” B-U coach Mike Donato said. “We did create a lot of quality chances in the first half and were able to work the ball around the pitch.”
The Bucs will remain home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to face Brooke for a non-conference encounter.
