D&E golfers place 20th at Glade Springs
DANIELS — The Davis & Elkins College men’s golf team opened the season Monday and Tuesday at the Glade Spring Intercollegiate Invitational hosted at the Glade Springs Resort.
The Senators finished 20th overall in a 23-team field at the two-day event, shooting a +98 with scores of 322, 314 and 326.
Toby Gibbons led the way for the Senators, climbing 15 spots in the final round to finish in a tie for 27th with a 231 (+15).
Gibbons opened with an 80, but shots rounds of 76 and 75 to close out the event.
Freshman Patrick Smith finished in a tie for 62nd in the 117-player field. Smith opened up his D&E career with a 76 to lead the way for the Senators. He then shot 78 and 83 to close out his first collegiate tournament.
Ben Marshall was third for the Senators, finishing in a tie for 79th. Marshall struggled out of the gate with an 86 in round one, but shot 77 and 81 in the second and third rounds.
Jack Gibson and Austin Bledsoe finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Senators. Gibson finished in 104th with a +35 score of 251, while Bledsoe finished 112th with a +41 of 257.
Davis & Elkins will return to action Saturday and Sunday at the Williams CC Invitational hosted by West Liberty and to be held in Weirton.
