Triplett’s late goal difference in 2-1 victory

BRIDGEPORT — Sofia Triplett’s goal with :30 left in regulation helped Elkins rally for a 2-1 win over Fairmont Senior on Thursday night.

The contest was played at Bridgeport High School due to East-West Stadium being used for the Bridgeport-Fairmont Senior football game.

The Lady Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead at the 8:00 mark on a goal by Tricia LeMasters.

With just 3:00 left in regulation, the Lady Tigers got even on freshman Anna Belan’s goal to set up the dramatic finish when Triplett broke free down the left sideline and knocked the ball into the near post for the game winner.

“We switched some things up in the second half because we were not getting any production in our attack,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “In the second half, we dominated possession and started to get some good looks on goal.”

Taylor Phillips recorded four saves in goal for the Lady Tigers, who are now 9-1 overall and 5-0 in Big 10 Conference games.

Elkins returns to action at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Robert C. Byrd for another Big 10 contest.
