Fletcher and Triplett shine in wins over North

ELKINS — The Elkins High School boys and girls soccer teams posted wins over North Marion Tuesday night at EHS Field.

The Tiger boys claimed a 4-0 win in the evening’s first game as Devan Fletcher turned in a hat trick.

Liam Gongola also tallied a score.

Keeper Greyson Howell recorded the shutout for EHS, stopping three shots.

The Tigers are now 5-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the Big 10.

Sofia Triplett, meanwhile, netted four goals as the Lady Tigers erupted in the second half after the match was tied 2-2 at halftime.

Triplett scored just 30 seconds into the contest off an assist from Isabella Karlen, and again with 6:00 left in the half after North Marion had tied the game.

The Huskies, however, found the back of the net just before the break to make it 2-2.

“It was a frustrating first half for us,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “We weren’t able to keep a clean sheet (on defense) and allowed North Marion to get some good shot attempts off that they converted on.

“We’ll learn from our mistakes we made and move on.”

Triplett’s hat trick came 7:00 into the second half to give the Lady Tigers the lead for good. She added her fourth goal in the 65th minute and Alli Hopwood knocked in an insurance goal 5:00 later.

Taylor Phillips had one save in goal for EHS, which is now 8-1 overall and 4-0 in Big 10 play.

Both Elkins squads will remain home on Thursday to face Fairmont Senior.

The games were originally slated to be played in Fairmont but East-West Stadium was unavailable due to the Fairmont Senior vs. Bridgeport football contest.

The boys’ contest will start at 6 p.m., followed by the girls at approximately 8 p.m.
