“The boys are eager to finally have our entire team together for a race this season,” EHS coach Matt Lewis. “The weather, temperature wise, looks a little cool which will be much welcomed, though we have our fingers crossed on the rain situation.”
Kaeli Ricottilli, the lone senior on the girls squad, is set to compete for Elkins, along with the lone junior Lexie Morici. The duo will be joined by sophomores Addie Berdine and Hannah Phillips and freshmen Kaeleigh Edwards, Holly Harper, Kaia Miller and Natalie Sutton.
“Like the boys, the girls are finally able to compete with a full team this season,” coach Melissa Carr said. “They’re really excited to be running at home and we’re hoping for a good crowd.”
A strong field will be featured in both the boys race, which will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the girls race that follows at 10:15 a.m.
Allegany (Md.), Bridgeport, Buckhannon-Upshur, Clay-Battelle, Fairmont Senior, Keyser, Lewis County, Mountain Ridge (Md.), North Marion, Pocahontas County, Robert C. Byrd, South Harrison, Trinity Christian and Tucker County are all set to compete against Elkins.
“It’ll be two highly competitive races across the board with many talented teams and individuals racing” Lewis said. “Hopefully the weather holds and we get a good race in.”
Elkins will also host one additional race this season as the Big 10 Conference Championships are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Oct. 11.
