Lady Senator spikers best Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON — The Davis & Elkins College volleybal team overcame an early deficit to hand West Virginia Wesleyan a 3-1 setback Tuesday evening at Rockefeller Center.

The Lady Senators dropped the first set, 25-19, before winning the next three by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 25-16.

Luann O’Kane and Kaitlyn LaCour each had 12 kills for D&E. Charisse Mitchell had nine blocks, Lillie Mueller two ace serves, Elyse Bonnett 19 assists and LaCour led in digs with 21.

Mueller also had 17 kills, Jessa Henry 17 assists, Kelly Smith 20 digs and Briana Hoffman 18 digs.

Anaya Hyman led the Lady Bobcats with 14 kills, followed by Alexie Arnold with nine and Olivia Lundy with seven.

Lauryn Antolock had a team-high six blocks, Mackenie Wheeler led in assists with 30 and Hannah Bradford had 30 digs.

Philip Barbour product Maddi Carpenter added 11 assists.

D&E improved to 3-3 on the season and will return to action at 7 p.m. Friday in the home opener against Trevacca Nazarene.

Wesleyan (0-5) will face Indiana (Pa.) and Mercyhurst (Pa.) Friday at California (Pa.).

AB drops G-MAC opener

TIFFIN, Ohio — The Alderson Broaddus women’s volleyball team fell in straight sets, 3-0, to host Tiffin Tuesday night in the G-MAC opener for both squads.

The Dragons (6-3, 1-0 G-MAC) jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set on their way to a 25-13 victory. In the second, the Battlers (4-4, 0-1) held a 16-14 advantage, but four straight points for Tififn led to 25-21 win and 2-0 advantage. Tiffin closed out the match with a 25-16 third set.

The AB offense was paced by nine kills from Ashlyn McDonald and 12 assists from Bailey Nixon.

Anna Schmidt chipped in 12 digs and two service aces, while Hannah Johnson and Lynnie Ritter each picked up a block.

The Battlers are back in action at 6 p.m. Friday when they host Ohio Dominican for a G-MAC contest.

Men’s college soccer

Ohio Valley 6, ABU 0

VIENNA –The Alderson Broaddus men’s soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to Ohio Valley Tuesday afternoon to open G-MAC play.

The Fighting Scots opened the scoring in the 25th minute when a Jorge Pradillos volleyed a cross from teammate Andrew Benitez.

OVU would then strike for five goals in the second half.

Fransisco Yudego had five saves and took the loss in net for the Battlers.

AB will host Kentucky Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
