Lady Tigers set to make home debut
EHS spikers 2-2 on the season after falling to Lady Buccaneers
ELKINS — The Elkins High School volleyball team will open the home portion of the schedule today against Lincoln at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
Junior varsity action is slated for 6 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at approximately 7 p.m.
The Lady Tigers are 2-2 on the early season after falling at Buckhannon-Upshur on Wednesday evening in straight sets, 18-25, 16-25 and 17-25.
Leading EHS in Wednesday’s match was Sam Price with four kills, five solo blocks and one ace serve and Jordan Phillips with one solo block and one ace serve.
Head coach Penny Crawford has 11 players on the varsity roster — five seniors and six juniors.
“We’re getting back into the swing of things,” Crawford said of the team’s early play. “The thing I tell our girls is that we either win or we learn and we’re starting to get there.
“We just need to continue to plug away and now get ready for Lincoln.”
The Lady Tigers wre also in action on Tuesday, earning a hard-fought four-set match (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16) at Liberty.
The EHS JV squad is also 2-2 on the campaign. They defeated Liberty 2-1 (25-3, 23-25, 25-16) on Tuesday before dropping a 2-0 (14-25, 12-25) verdict at B-U on Wednesday.
Rumble Arbogast led EHS against the Lady Bucs with four ace serves, while Kaitlynn Stone added one ace and one kill, Dacey Arbogast one ace and three kills, Skylee Brown two kills and Bethany Bennett one solo block.
