ELKINS — While his former high school teammates prepare to battle the state’s top-ranked double-A squad today, George Triplett could possibly be spotted on television punting for another Tiger squad.

The Elkins High School graduate is the starting punter for the Princeton Tigers.

Their Ivy League encounter at Columbia is set to be televised at 6 p.m. today on ESPNU.

Triplett, a 5-11, 170-pound freshman, was an all-state kicker and punter during his career with the Elkins Tigers.

He captured the Fulton Walker Award his senior season, which goes to the state’s top special teams performer.

Triplett originally was set to attend Navy, just like his father Jeff Triplett, who punted for the Midshipmen from 1988-91. But a food allergy didn’t allow him to pass a medical evaluation.

Currently, the younger Triplett is just punting at the college level.

He has attempted just two punts so far this season, averaging 37.5 yards. Triplett had a 43-yard effort in last week’s win over Monmouth.

Both teams enter today’s nationally-televised game with 2-0 records. Princeton leads the all-time series, 70-16-1.
