TV looks to rebound vs. Highlanders

Tucker County takes 2-0 mark to Northern, Md.

MILL CREEK — Tygarts Valley looks to regroup from last week’s setback to Tucker County when Webster County visits Bulldog Field at 7 p.m. today.

The Bulldogs (1-1) nearly battled the Mountain Lions on even terms in the first half, trailing by a 14-6 count at the intermission before eventually dropping a 35-14 decision.

Sophomore running back Daniel White registered his second 100-yard ground game of the early season, totalling 150 yards and setting up a score with a 49-yard run in the first half.

Sophomore quarterback Josh Bright was 5 of 13 passing for 52 yards with touchdown passes to Caden Boggs and Brent Daniels.

The Highlanders, meanwhile, enter the encounter 0-2, dropping games to Richwood (46-36) in their opener and last week at home to Ravenswood (31-16).

Webster County had built a 16-3 halftime lead behind a pair of touchdown passes from Reece Nutter. But the offense was held to negative yards in the second half, allowingthe Red Devils to rally fo the victory.

The Mountain Lions are off to their best start since 2013, which was also their last playoff appearance.

Tucker County’s offense has been led by junior quarterback Liam Hood, along with the running of senior fullback Cole Rapp and junior Hunter Collar.

Hood completed 8 of 11 passes for 185 yards in last week’s win at Tygarts Valley. Rapp rushed for 80 yards and caught four passes for 113 yards and Collar tallied 65 yards on the ground.

Seniors Ben Callaway and Jeff Snyder lead the receiving corps.

Other games on tap around the area this evening include Grafton and Petersburg, Pocahontas County at Pendleton County, East Hardy at Wheeling Central and Southern (Md.) at Moorefield.
