B-U booters use late goal to tie Lewis

TENNERTON – Buckhannon-Upshur pushed across a goal with just one-minute remaining in regulation to salvage a 1-1 draw with Lewis County Tuesday for senior night at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.

“This was an exciting way to end to our home schedule,” Buccaneer coach Mike Donato said. “I commend our team for not giving up and earning the draw.”

The Minutemen took an early 1-0 lead when Anthony Atchinson retrieved a misplaced ball near the B-U goal and found the back of the net.

The score remained 1-0 until Bryer Ketterman took a deflected attempt from teammate Ryan Hurst and finished to the near post.

“We spent most of the game chasing after that goal we gave up early and that had us rushing (our) play for most of the night,” Donato said. “Once we started to settle down and tried to get into a flow of the game, we played a lot better.”

The Bucs held a 9-2 advantage on shots on goal and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Logan Kelley had one stop for the Bucs, while Ethan Haught stopped eight shots for Lewis County.

“I want to thank our seniors who we honored tonight for all they’ve contributed to our program over the years,” Donato added.

B-U (6-9-3) will conclude the regular season at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Elkins.
