ELKINS –The Elkins High School soccer teams celebrated senior night on Thursday night against old rival Buckhannon-Upshur at EHS field.

In Thursday’s nightcap, the Lady Tigers and Lady Bucs battled to a scoreless draw.

“It was good for us to come out tonight and get back into some kind of rhythm after dropping our last two games,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “I was also happy for our six seniors, who finished their careers without losing a game against Buckhannon.”

Taylor Phillips recorded the shut out in goal for the Lady Tigers, who will host Bridgeport at 7 p.m. Saturday for a makeup Big 10 Conference contest.

Dawson Carpenter scored a pair of goals to lead the Bucs to the win in Thursday’s opening game.

Carpenter opened the scoring the 23rd minute when he took a through pass from Lane Tenney and found the back of the net.

Just two minutes later, Carpenter struck again with Tenney once again providing the helper to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Tigers answered in the 30th minute when Devin Fletcher converted from 25 yards out to cut the lead to 2-1.

Caden Andrick tacked on a goal in the 33rd minute as B-U took a two-goal cushion into the intermission.

Bryer Ketterman had the match’s lone score in the second half when he booted in a deflection in front of the EHS goal.

The Tigers held a 13-12 advantage on shots on goal and each team attempted five corner kicks.

Logan Kelley had 12 saves for B-U, while Greyson Howell stopped eight shots for Elkins.

“Between being down a few players and the field conditions, we had a lot of factors going against us tonight,” B-U coach Mike Donato said.

“I commend the team for overcoming those obstacles and having one of the most complete games I’ve seen them play the entire season.”

Both teams will begin sectional play next week.
