Bucs’ Hurst lands on second unit

Elkins’ Gongola and PB’s Shipley earn HM laurels

TENNERTON – Buckhannon sophomore midfielder Ryan Hurst was selected to the second team of the West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Associated Class AAA all-state team released on Tuesday.

State champion George Washington placed forward Chance Anderson, midfielder Adam Pack and defender Zakariya Abdul-Jalil on the first team.

The rest of the first unit included Huntington’s Owen Stoll (forward), Foster Jones (midfielder) and Perin Schray (defender), Wheeling Park’s Coleman Meredith (midfielder) and Chris Romanek (midfielder), Hurricane’s Ryan Fisher (midfielder) and Nick Eskins (goalkeeper), University’s Joseph Biafora (forward) and Mason Shockley (midfielder), Ripley’s Davisson Flint (forward), Jefferson’s Ryan King (midfielder), Washington’s Jacob Thaldorf (midfielder), Woodrow Wilson’s Nathan Williams (midfielder), Greenbrier East’s Chase Circle (defender) and Princeton’s Cade Fix (defender).

State runner-up Hedgesville had two players — forward Wantu Zondo and defender Bohdi Fritzsch — on the second team.

Other second-unit forwards included Parkersburg’s Isaiah Owen, Princeton’s Drew Hopkins, Washington’s Michael Barr and Wheeling Park’s Louie Aulick.

Joining Hurst the midfield position were Hurricane’s Colton Jones, Ripley’s Broedy Boyce and Woodrow Wilson’s Chase Harrison.

Other defenders included Jefferson’s Nick Vanderpool, Wheeling Park’s Clayton Meredith and Woodrow Wilson’s Isaac Bragg.

The second-team goalkeepers were Greenbrier East’s David Ickes and Wheeling Park’s Zach Calvert.
