B-U boys down Lewis in debut
Hurst, Sandreth spark Bucs to 62-56 decision
TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boys basketball team opened the season with a 62-56 win over Big 10 Conference rival Lewis County on Tuesday night.
Ryan Hurst scored 17 points and Tyler Sandreth added 14 to pace the Bucs, who trailed 20-13 after one quarter before taking a six-point lead, at 34-28, at the intermission.
The Minutemen bounced back, however, to outscore the hosts, 16-10, in the third canto to tie the game at 44-44.
Jacob Loudin added five assists and Sandreth three for B-U, while Zach White grabbed nine rebounds and Ryan Strader grabbed eight.
Kyle Gannon paced Lewis County (0-1) with 18 points. Bradley Smith chipped in 11 points and Luke White 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Caden Rohrbaugh added four helpers for Lewis County.
The Bucs will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at sectional foe University.
