EMS squads battle East Fairmont

ELKINS – The Elkins Middle School boys basketball team split games against East Fairmont on Thursday evening.

The Hornets (2-2) captured a 50-41 win in the varsity contest as Ben Baines scored 14 points and Maxie McCollum added 11.

Alex Culp led East with 11 points.

EMS trailed 10-8 after the first quarter before taking control the rest of the evening as the result of a 19-7 scoring edge in the second frame.

The Hornets lost the JV contest, 44-24.

Brock Holland had nine points for EMS, while Grayson Stewart led East Fairmont with 15.

The Hornets are now 2-1.

EMS splits at East

FAIRMONT — The Elkins Middle School girls basketball team dropped the varsity game, while the junior varsity squad picked up a victory Thursday night at East Fairmont.

The Lady Hornets (1-3) trailed 20-4 after three quarters in the varsity game before outscoring the hosts, 9-3, in the final canto.

Emerson Haddix had five points and Autumn Lane four for EMS.

Keenly Rogers led the winners with seven.

“We came out flat and our energy level was low,” EMS coach Clint Bennett said. “We finally played with some energy in the fourth quarter but it was too late.

“We will be back at work (today) to get better.”

The Lady Hornets (3-0) took the junior varsity contest by an 18-10 score.

Gracelin Corley and Addy Cogar had four points each in the win, while Laney Fletcher, Haddix, Addison McDonald and Brooklyn Long had two points each.

“I was proud of how we shared the ball and how balanced we were,” Bennett said. “It was another great team win and nice to see eight different players score points for us.”

Jaedyn Moore had four points for East Fairmont.
