Lady Senators best ABU

ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins women’s basketball team opened its Great Midwest Conference home slate with a 66-55 win over Alderson Broaddus Thursday night at the McDonnell Center.
The Lady Senators (2-4 1-2 G-MAC) fell behind 13-4 to start the game before using a 3-pointer from Kayla James to cut the lead to 18-13 and give the hosts some momentum heading into the second quarter.
The Lady Battlers increased their lead to 10, at 23-13, but D&E answered with an 18-3 run over the final 6:49 of the frame to take a 31-26 advantage into intermission.
The Lady Senators led by as many as 17 points in the second half.
Kali Wilburn tossed in a game-high 21 points to pace the winners.
She was 7 of 13 from the floor and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Nicole Armstrong also reached double figures for D&E with 12 points. She also grabbed three rebounds and a steal.
Colleena Burdock added seven points, three assists, four steals and three caroms.
Yasmin Norman had 14 points and six rebounds for the Lady Battlers, who are now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in conference games.
D&E will be idle until playing host to Ohio Dominican next Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. league encounter.
AB will also be off until next Thursday as the Lady Battlers will travel to Ohio Valley for a 5:30 p.m. G-MAC contest.
