ELKINS  — Alderson Broaddus overcame a late deficit in regulation in claiming an 84-79 overtime win over Davis & Elkins Thursday night in G-MAC play at the McDonnell Center.

The Battlers (4-4, 1-1 G-MAC) trailed 73-67 with 1:44 remaining in the contest before rallying to force the extra session on Tyler Golphin’s 3-pointer with seven seconds left.

D&E (1-6, 0-2) had an opportunity to win the contest on the other end, but a tip-in at the buzzer was off the mark.

In overtime, Golphin again came up big for AB, scoring five of his 22 points in the extra frame and giving the Battlers the lead for good on a conventional 3-point play to start overtime.

D&E got within 78-77 on Marcus Friend’s layup before Golphin capped off a 4-0 spurt with a dunk to push the lead to five, at 82-77, with 1:15 remaining.

The Senators had a chance to tie the game after a missed free throw from the Battlers with 16 seconds left.

A turnover, however, led to Coye Campbell’s layup on the other end just before time expired.

Trailing 34-31 at the intermission, D&E went on an 11-2 run to start the second half to construct a 42-36 advantage on back-to-back 3-pointers from Edmund Parker.

The Battlers countered with a run of their over to regain a 60-55 lead on a trey from Campbell with 7:11 left in the second half.

A layup by Logan Phillips later gave D&E a 65-62 edge and the lead swelled to six, at 73-67, on Parker’s 3-pointer with 1:44 left before the Battlers went on a 6-0 run to force overtime.

Campbell led all scorers with 24 points for the winners, while Brandon Simmons added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Malik Bocook netted 12 points and Bryan Polanco 10 caroms.

Parker fired in 22 points for the Senators, Friend 17 and Trevor English 12 points and 16 rebounds to complete his double-double.

Both teams will have a break before returning to G-MAC play next Thursday as D&E will entertain Ohio Dominican at 5:30 p.m. and AB visits Ohio Valley for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
