Pocahontas girls cruise to home win

DUNMORE — Class A, No. 8 Pocahontas County used a big third quarter to breeze past Greenbrier West, 65-31, on Thursday night.

The Lady Warriors (2-0) led by 13-4 after the first quarter before outscoring the visitors, 13-8, in the second quarter and 21-3 in the third frame.

Brianna Hefner, the lone Pocahontas County senior on the roster, fired in 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way.

Junior center Charity Warder chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double and junior point guard Alexa Taylor had 10 points, seven assists and five steals.

Kenley Posten led the Cavaliers with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Warriors held a 36-28 rebounding advantage and forced 33 turnovers.

Pocahontas County will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Bath County (Va.).
