Senators set to host ABU tonight
ELKINS — Alderson Broaddus University and Davis & Elkins look to shake off slow starts when the old rivals square off at 5:30 p.m. today at the McDonnell Center for a G-MAC encounter.
The Senators (1-5, 0-1 G-MAC) enter the contest with a 1-5 overall record and 0-1 slate in G-MAC play after falling, 77-64, at Lake Erie on Saturday.
Trevor English, a 6-foot-8 junior center, is averaging 15.3 points and 7.0 rebounds for coach Nick Patella’s squad.
Senior guard Edmund Parker is next in scoring with 10.2 points per game, followed by junior guard Donte Doleman at 9.3 ppg.
Led by 23 points from freshman David Shriver and double-doubles from Brandon Simmons and Malik Bocook, the Battlers (3-4, 0-1) are coming off an 88-63 win over visiting Salem University on Tuesday night.
Simmons had 17 points and 13 rebounds in the victory, while Bocook had 16 points and 20 caroms.
In today’s second game at approximately 7:30 p.m., the D&E women are out to halt a two-game skid.
The Lady Senators (1-4, 0-2 G-MAC) have been idle since dropping a tough 59-56 verdict at Lake Erie on Saturday afternoon.
D&E placed three players in double figures in the loss, receiving 19 points from Kali Wilburn and 10 each from Jay Kilpatrick and Jamiyah Johnson.
In Saturday’s 59-56 win at Ursuline, the Lady Battlers gave coach Roy Boggess his first victory at the helm as Yolanda Florida had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jeana Weatherspoon chipped in 10 points and nine caroms, Danielle Franklin 11 points and Ta’Sharra Jeffries 10 points.
