Trey at the buzzer sinks Lady Bucs
FAIRMONT — Abby Beeman’s 3-pointer as time expired lifted Class AA, No. 4 Frankfort to a 51-49 win over Class AAA, No. 8 Buckhannon-Upshur Saturday in the Frank Hines Memorial Basketball Mixer on Saturday.
The Lady Bucs (0-1) had taken a 49-48 lead on a free throw from Alli Robinson with 28 seconds left.
Robinson fired in 19 points to pace B-U. Audrey Gaudet added 13 points and freshman Shelby McDaniels chipped in with eight points.
Beeman, a returning all-state first-team selection, led Frankfort with 17 points. Maria Perdew netted 13 and Makenna Douthitt 12.
B-U led 21-13 after one quarter but was outscored, 13-4, in the second canto as the Falcons carried a 26-25 advantage into the intermission.
The game was tied 40-40 entering the final quarter.
B-U will open the home portion of its schedule at 7:30 p.m. today against Preston for a Big 10 contest.

Lake Erie 77, D&E 64
PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Davis & Elkins dropped a 77-64 decision to Lake Erie Saturday in G-MAC action.
The Storm (5-3, 2-0 G-MAC) rushed out to a 14-2 lead in the opening moments of the game and took a 38-20 advantage with just over five minutes left in the opening half.
The Senators (1-5, 0-1) came as close as five, at 56-51, in the second half after a layup by Trevor English but came no closer.
Gabe Kynard fired in 26 points to pace Lake Erie. Brogan Scott added 16 and Erron James 13.
English was the leader for the Senators as he poured in 22 points.
The junior center also pulled down eight rebounds.
Edmund Parker also reached double figures with 11 points.
D&E will return to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at home against G-MAC area rival Alderson Broaddus University..
Lake Erie 59, D&E 56
PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Lake Erie used a strong fourth quarter to get past Davis & Elkins, 59-56, Saturday in G-MAC play.
The Senators held a 47-46 lead after three quarters before being outscored, 13-9, in the final canto.
Kali Wilburn led three teammates in double figures with 19 points for D&E (1-4, 0-2 G-MAC). Jay Kilpatrick and Jamiyah Johnson added 10 points each.
Wilburn and Johnson had six rebounds apiece and Colleeena Burdock dished out five assists.
Josie Chaddock led Lake Erie (4-2, 2-0) with 14 points
