WVWC women tripped

BUCKHANNON –UVa.-Wise withstood a strong fourth quarter from West Virginia Wesleyan and held on for a 59-58 MEC win on Wednesday night.

The Cavs (4-4, 3-2) held a 50-33 lead after three quarters, but the Lady Bobcats (2-3, 2-5) battled back in the final 10 minutes. A trey from Wesleyan’s Tyra Hughes made it 59-58 with still 12 seconds left on the clock.

The Lady Bobcats forced a turnover had a shot at a game-winner, but the shot wouldn’t fall.

Kalee Johnson had 14 points to lead UVa.-Wise.

Wesleyan was led by 18 points and five rebounds from Victoria Jackson. Nicole Gilyard tossed in eight.
