Belington sweeps Elkins Middle girls

BELINGTON – The Elkins Middle School varsity and junior varsity squads fell to Belington on Tuesday night.

BMS took the varsity contest by a 29-18 score. Autumn Lane led the Lady Hornets with 10 points, while Emily Denison had 17 and Darcy Knight four for the Lady Hawks.

The contest was tied at 8-8 at the intermission.

“It was a hard-fought game for three quarters,” EMS coach Clint Bennett said. “We have to cut down on our turnovers as a whole. Especially the live-ball turnovers, which made a difference down the stretch in tonight’s game.”

Belington took the JV contest, 18-15, as LaDonna Herron and Macie Satterfield scored six points apiece.

Laney Fletcher led EMS with seven and Gracelin Corley added three.

Elkins will host Philippi at 6 p.m. Thursday.
