Defense lifts Lady Tigers by RCB

CLARKSBURG – Three players landed in double figures as Elkins used a big second half to take a 50-30 win over Robert C. Byrd Friday night in Big 10 Conference play.

The Lady Tigers, who halted a five-game skid, led 18-17 at the intermission before outscoring the Lady Flying Eagles, 18-9, in the third and 14-4 in the fourth.

“We played great defense in (the third and fourth quarters),” EHS coach Matt Davis said. “We finally got back to doing the things we are good at.

“We played our roles and the team responded.”

Madison Holland led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, followed by Susan Riggleman with 12 — all 3-pointers — and Haley Smith with 11.

Riggleman also collected eight rebounds and Taylor Phillips four steals.

Freshman Rhiannon Haller was the lone player to reach double figures for RCB (3-9) with 14 points.
