Hawks pull away to deal TV a setback

LOST CREEK – Brenten Barnette scored 22 points and Caleb Jenkins added 20 as South Harrison pulled away for a 74-57 Mason-Dixon Conference win over Tygarts Valley on Thursday night.

“It was a close game most of the night,” Bulldog coach Tom Wamsley said. “We were down by seven going into the fourth quarter before (Barnette) hit a couple of big (3-pointers) and we were forced to catch-up and gamble some on defense, which allowed them to pull away.”

The contest was tied at 15-15 after one quarter and the Hawks carried a slim one-point cushion, 29-28, into halftime.

South Harrison (8-1) then outscored TV, 18-12, in the third frame.

Logan George fired in a game-high 25 points to lead the Bulldogs (6-3). Brett Smith also reached double figures with 10.

Nick Fenstermacher added 15 for the hosts.

Tygarts Valley will visit Elkins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday for a non-conference contest.
