Kendall appears to be headed to WVU

MORGANTOWN – Quarterback Austin Kendall reportedly will transfer to West Virginia University from Oklahoma after a whirlwind of controversy on Wednesday.

Kendall’s request to transfer to fellow Big 12 Conference member WVU was initially blocked by the Sooners early Wednesday, but approved later in the day.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts had announced on Wednesday he was transfering to Oklahoma and will be available immediately as a graduate transfer.

Kendall was Baker Mayfield’s backup in 2016 and battled Kyler Murray for the starting job into fall camp this past season. Murray won the job and eventually won the Heisman Trophy. Kendall completed 28 of 39 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns without an interception at Oklahoma.

Kendall has already graduated from Oklahoma and is eligible to play this season. He will have two total years of eligibility.

The Mountaineers currently have two quarterbacks on scholarship — redshirt junior Jack Allison, who started Camping World Bowl, and rising sophomore Trey Lowe
