Colts get by Vikings

PETERSBURG — Petersburg senior Tyce Wisnewski fired in 26 points, including six treys, on Tuesday night but it wasn’t enough as Philip Barbour claimed a 65-58 win in a closely contested game.

The Colts took an initial advantage at 16-9 in the first quarter, before the Vikings responded to take a one- point lead of 26-25 into the intermission period.

The sectional rivals were deadlocked at 39-all heading into the fourth frame.

“It was a very hard- fought game with both teams making big runs,” Petersburg coach Todd Heare said. “I thought we played hard and just made some big mental mistakes down the stretch that hurt us.

“We had a lot of opportunities that we let slip through our fingers.”

Matt VanMeter hit 4 of 5 at the line toward nine points, while fellow PHS teammates Jacob Hartman and Hunter Pool chipped in with eight and five points, respectively.

Philip Barbour’s senior duo of Levi MacAdam and Kiyan Bartlett both recorded double-doubles.

MacAdam posted 24 points, 10 boards and four steals while going 7 for 8 from the charity stripe. Bartlett hit for 17 markers, and pulled down 14 caroms.

Jed Hawkins added a third player in double figures for the winners with 10 points on the night.

Petersburg will host Moorefield (3-12) on Thursday with junior varsity action tipping things off at 5:45 p.m.

Philip Barbour (8-7) will entertain Big 10 Conference rival Grafton (5-12) on the same night with a 6 p.m. start time set for the JV affair and varsity play to follow.
