PHILIPPI — Coming off a nine-day layoff from live action, Philip Barbour got back in the win column with a 65-56 verdict over Big 10 Conference rival East Fairmont on Monday evening.

After facing some tough sledding early on, the Colts found themselves down, 12-10, after one period, and even further behind when trailing the Bees, 33-26 at the break.

“Friday before last was the last time we played, and we were down at halftime (Monday),” PBHS coach Marcus Johnson said. “In the locker room I told them the first 3 or 4 minutes of the third quarter were crucial and that we had to win it.

“We came through because the kids played hard and continued fighting through it. We had multiple players hit some big buckets to prove what playing hard can do,” said Johnson.

Philip Barbour snagged the upper hand by pushing back with a 17-9 tally in the third frame to post a one-point lead of 43-42 before heading down the final stretch.

Johnson said the game was still within reach for East Fairmont over the final eight minutes of regulation.

“I mean, this is a game that we could have messed up and lost late,” Johnson said. “But the kids just kept on making plays. A lot of guys put up some quality minutes for us tonight.”

With three players reaching double figures, senior Levi MacAdam paced the Colts in scoring with a game-high 20 points and 7 rebounds. Kiyan Bartlett, also a senior, netted 17 after hitting a perfect 7 of 7 from the line, and collecting 7 boards.

Sophomore Jed Hawkins recorded 14 points, 4 steals and 3 assists for PB. Senior Noah Matlick handed out a team-high 9 passer assists to go with 6 points, and senior Coalton Criss nailed a trey while chipping in with 5 points at the Colts’ Corral.

East Fairmont was led by Ducati Linn with 17 points, while Aiden Slusher and Luke Pollock hit for 10 and 9 points, respectively.

Philip Barbour (7-7) is slated to be on the road today for a sectional rivalry contest at Petersburg (9-6).

Junior varsity tip time is set for 5 p.m., with the varsity tilt to follow.
