Early deficit plagues TV in loss to Warriors

Play continues today in WVHIT Finals Weekend at Robert C. Byrd High School

CLARKSBURG – Tygarts Valley couldn’t overcome an early offensive struggle in dropping a 46-37 decision to Pocahontas County Friday in WVHIT Finals Weekend action at Robert C. Byrd High School.

The Bulldogs were limited to just nine points over the first two quarters, including a scoreless first canto, as the Warriors were able to construct a 21-9 halftime lead.

“I really have no answer for why we’ve had so many slow starts this season,” Bulldogs coach Tom Wamsley said. “I give our kids credit, though. They never quit and we had the deficit down to eight points in the fourth quarter, and were a couple of plays away from making it an exciting game.

“That early hole we got in was just too much for us.”

Logan George led Tygarts Valley with 22 points. Willie Walden chipped in eight.

Elijah Robertson tossed in 18 points and Jacob Jones 14 for the Warriors.

The Bulldogs (7-11) return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton County, while Pocahontas County (4-13) entertains Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
