EMS cagers turn back Little Bucs

ELKINS – The Elkins Middle School varsity and junior varsity squads captured wins over Buckhannon-Upshur Monday night at EMS gymnasium.

It was eighth-grade night for EMS as the basketball and cheerleaders were honored in front of a capacity crowd.

The Hornets captured the varsity contest by a 40-33 count.

Ben Baines tossed in a game-high 16 points to lead Elkins, which is now 11-6.

Cory Harper followed with nine points.

Shawn Blandino led the Little Bucs with 12 points.

In the preliminary junior varsity contest, the Hornets claimed a 59-33 victory over B-UMS.

Brock Holland knocked down 15 points to pace Elkins in the win.

Nate Hulver and A.J. Friedman followed with 10 points each.

Ian Strader led the Little Bucs with nine.

The Hornet JV team is now 11-5.

Both Elkins squads will begin tournament action Wednesday at East Fairmont Middle School against West Fairmont.
