Irish get by TVHS girls

MILL CREEK – Tygarts Valley fell to Notre Dame, 47-34, Friday afternoon in front of the student body.

“We played pretty good defense,” Lady Bulldogs coach Nancy Lewis said. “We just missed too many easy shots, which would have made the difference in the game.”

The Irish jumped out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter and carried a 25-18 cushion into the intermission break.

The advantage grew to 10, at 33-23, after the third quarter and Notre Dame held a 14-11 scoring edge in the final canto.

Bailee Yokum tossed in 17 points and Taylor Martino hit for 10 for Notre Dame, which is now 12-7 on the season.

Abby Harris led Tygarts Valley with 16 points and three steals.

Abby Lanham contributed 10 points and three steals, while Abi Cabaniss collected a team-high seven rebounds.

Tygarts Valley (11-7) will conclude regular-season play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Class A, No. 6 Pocahontas County.
