Senior advances to title tilt
CHARLESTON — Top-seeded Fairmont Senior earned a spot in the Class AA state title game by cruising to a 61-38 win over No. 5 Frankfort in semifinal play Friday night at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Polar Bears (24-3) will face No. 2 Wyoming East (24-3) at 2:30 p.m. today in the championship game. The Warriors advanced with a 54-29 victory over Wayne in Friday’s other semifinal.
Anysa Jordan led Fairmont Senior with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Marley Washenitz, Courtney Wilfong and Abby Faulkner all added 10 points each.
Abby Beeman ended her Falcon career with 13 points. Miller chipped in 10 points and 10 boards.
Frankfort finished with a 21-5 mark.
Wyoming East held Wayne to just 23 percent shooting from the floor in coasting to the victory in the other Class AA semifinal matchup.
Katie Daniels led the Warriors with 14 points. Jazz Blankenship chipped in 12 points and eight steals and 6-foot-4 center Emily Saunders added nine points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots.
Whitney Sansom was the lone player in double figures for the Pioneers (23-4) with 12 points.
South Charleston 50
Defending state champion Parkersburg claimed a 66-50 win over No. 5 South Charleston in Class AAA semifinal play on Friday.
The top-seed Big Reds (25-1) will face University at 7:15 p.m. today in the championship game. The Hawks defeated Greenbrier East in Friday night’s other semifinal.
Shay Kirby tossed in 19 points to pace Parkersburg, while Bre Wilson chipped in 18 points and Maddi Leggett 13 points and six assists. Madi Mace also reached double figures with 11 points and Aleea Crites grabbed a team-high 14 caroms.
Maliha Witten tallied 18 points and Lavendar Ward 13 for the Black Eagles, who ended the season 21-6. Lashae Watts also netted nine points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
St. Joseph Central 75
Wheeling Central 47
Top-seeded St. Joseph Central pulled away in the second half to hand fourth-seed Wheeling Central a 75-47 setback in Class A semifinal play on Friday.
The Irish (22-4) held a six-point lead, 32-26, at the intermission before outscoring the Maroon Knights 43-21 over the final two quarters.
St. Joseph placed five players in double figures and were led by Hannah Roberts with 15 points.
Eden Gainer fired in 26 points for Wheeling Central, which ended the season 16-10.
The Irish will face Parkersburg Catholic at noon today in the title game.

Second-seed Parkersburg Catholic advanced to the Class A title game with a 51-39 win over Trinity on Friday.
The Crusaderettes (24-1) will face top-seed St. Joseph Central at noon today.
Center Emma Gardner paced Parkersburg Catholic with 15 points, while Aaliyah Brunny contributed a stat line of 10 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and five blocked shots.
Rachel Rosen led the Warriors (18-9) with 12 points and 14 boards.
