Parkersburg, St. Joseph also capture titles
CHARLESTON – Top-seeded Fairmont Senior overcame an early 14-point deficit to defeat No. 2 Wyoming East, 51-39, Saturday in the Class AA state title game at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
It was the second championship over the past three years for the Polar Bears (25-3), who trailed 17-3 in the first quarter before rallying to lead by two, at 29-27, at halftime.
The Senior lead grew to 40-33 after three quarters.
Marley Washenitz had 18 points and seven steals for the Polar Bears, while Anysa Jordan added 15 points and Abby Faulker 10 points and six rebounds.
Jazz Blankenship was the lone player in double figures for the Warriors, who ended the season 24-4, with 11 points.
Brooke Russsell netted nine points and 13 rebounds and Emily Saunders chipped in six points, five rebounds and 10 blocked shots.
Parkersburg repeated as Class AAA state champions with a 63-52 win over third seed University on Saturday night.
Bre Wilson had 27 points for the top-seed Big Reds (26-1), while Shay-Lee Kirby chipped in 11 and Madi Mace 10.
The Hawks (22-6) were paced by Zoe Murphy with 15, Mallory Napolillo with 14 points and 10 boards and Ashten Boggs with 13 points.

Paige Shy drilled a state-tournament record with eight 3-pointers as top-seeded St. Joseph Central cruised past No. 2 Parkersburg Catholic, 71-46, in the Class A title game.
Shy finished with 28 points for the Irish (23-4), while Dena Jarrells added 14 and Hannah Roberts 12.
Aaliyah Brunny had 15, Madeline Huffman 12 and Leslie Huffman 11 for the Crusadarettes, who finished with a 24-2 mark.
