Tigers outlast Vikings, 13-8; improve to 3-3

AB softball team splits with Lake Erie

PETERSBURG — Seniors Cole Crumm and Read Schumacher each drove in three runs to help Elkins claim a 13-8 win over Petersburg on Saturday.

Nathan Cooper added three hits and Alan Bennett two hits for the Tigers, who improved to 3-3.

Jeremy Cogar went three innings on the mound for Elkins, while Matthew Gainer recorded five strikeouts during his stint on the mound.

Hunter Pool had three hits and three RBIs for the Vikings, who dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Elkins is slated to visit Preston at 5 p.m. today and remain on the road Tuesday against Liberty.

Petersburg is also slated to be in action at 5 p.m. today for a home contest against Pendleton County.

AB, Lake Erie split

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Emily Rhoades tossed a complete game three-hitter as Alderson Broaddus blanked Lake Erie, 3-0, in the first game of a G-MAC doubleheader on Sunday.

Rhoades struck out four and walked just one.

She also helped her cause by cracking a two-run double and was 2 for 3 in the contest.

Marybeth Strickler went 2 for 4 with a run scored for the Lady Battlers. Lauren Meyer and Maura Mallon each had a hit and a run scored, while Payton Barr singled.

Lake Erie took the second game, 5-2.

Rhodes and Caitlin Winkler each went 1 for 3 with one RBI. Lauren Meyer went 1-3.
