Vikings top TVHS in season opener

PETERSBURG — Wyatt Arbaugh surrendered just one hit in four innings pitched as Petersburg defeated Tygarts Valley 11-1 Thursday in both teams’ season opener.

Arbaugh struck out eight batters and walked just two for the Vikings (1-0). Arbaugh helped his own cause at the plate with one hit and two RBIs.

Dawson Tinger led the charge at the dish for Petersburg by knocking in three runs on one hit. Blake Loy chipped in with a pair of safeties.

Ethan Kirk suffered the loss for the Bulldogs (0-1) in two innings pitched. He scattered five hits, walked three and struck out one. Kirk had the lone hit in the contest for TVHS. Logan George pitched two innings of relief in a losing effort.

The Bulldogs will entertain Harman on Monday for their next contest. Petersburg will play host for East Hardy the same evening.
