AB track squads break 37 records

Battlers take three first-place finishes at Claggett Invitational

BUCKHANNON — The Alderson Broaddus track & field team competed at the Claggett Invitational hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan.

Thirty-seven Battlers broke personal bests and two school records, with three first place finishes and 39 athletes with top-8 finishes in their respective events.

On the men’s side, Antwon Foster started the day in the 100m with a personal best of 11.61. Malik Washington won the 200m, while Andrew Daugherty, Jabron Stokes, Kierin Smith-Ouwens, and Tory Lee all broke personal bests in the event. Korey Fennell won the 400m with a school record time of 48.93, while Kierin Smith-Ouwens and Malik Washington also topped their previous bests in the 400m.

Caleb Pell broke a personal record in the 1500m, while the men’s 4×100 relay team of Nick Dean, Korey Fennell, Malik Washington, and Antwon Foster ran a personal best of 43.67.

Andrew Daugherty finished fourth in the high jump, with a personal best of 1.75 meters. Daugherty also topped a personal best in the long jump, along with personal bests from Jabron Stokes and Tory Lee. In the discus throw, Ty-Shawn Bryant broke the school record of 39.09 meters. Bryant also had a personal best in the shotput and hammer throw, finishing third in both events.

On the women’s side, Madison Ross, Jeana Weatherspoon, and TaSharra Jeffries started the day breaking personal bests in the 200m. Jeffries also broke a personal best in the 400m, as well as Monea Collins in that event.

Katie Steigerwald had a personal best in the 800m, while sister Emily Steigerwald topped her previous best in the 1500m. Emma Stowers and Kierra Hodge also had personal bests in the 1500m.

Elizabeth Brant broke her personal bests in both the 100m hurdle and 400m hurdle, while Madison Ross finished first in the long jump with a personal best of 4.89 meters.

Jeana Weatherspoon finished third in the high jump with a distance of 1.4 meters. Kelsey Hudson broke personal bests in the Javelin and Shotput, while Carleigh Morgan topped personal bests in the Hammer Throw and Shotput.

Up next: The AB Track & Field team host the AB Battler Invitational on April 20.
