Indians knock off Tigers, 5-3
BRIDGEPORT – Class AA, No. 1 Bridgeport plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to claim a 5-3 win over Elkins Thursday in Big 10 Conference play.
The Tigers held a 3-2 lead entering the home-half of the fifth before the Indians (18-3) plated those two runs on an error.
Elkins scored all three of its runs in the third inning as Nathan Cooper cracked an RBI double and Remington Stanley a fielder’s choice RBI.
Read Schumacher was saddled with the loss for the Tigers, who managed just three hits on the day.
Schumacher allowed five runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out four.
Conner Robe took the win for Bridgeport in a complete-game effort. He fanned seven and walked one.
Elkins (15-9) will return home at 5 p.m. Monday to face Preston for senior day.
