Lady Senators earn sweep over ABU

ELKINS — With its doubleheader sweep over Alderson-Broaddus University on Tuesday, the Davis & Elkins softball team ran its win streak to seven straight games.

The Lady Senators (19-27) won the first game of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference twin bill 5-3, then completed the sweep with an 8-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.

Alyssa Cairns finished with three hits, one RBI and two runs scored to lead Davis & Elkins in Game 1. Amy Fincham followed with two hits, while Ryn Boelter knocked in a pair runs with double.

Haley Grindstaff pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Lady Senators in the opener. She scattered four hits, struck out four and walked three.

Emily Rhodes took the loss for the Lady Battlers in five innings pitched. Rhodes gave up four runs on eight hits.

Brianna Burger collected two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Alderson Broaddus at the dish.

In Game 2, Jade Allee twirled a complete-game shutout for Davis & Elkins. Allee allowed just three hits, struck out three and walked just one batter.

Allee and Katie Manson knocked in two runs each to lead the Lady Senators at the plate. Kelsie Millner drove in a run on a pair of hits.

Jordyn Kenneally suffered the setback for Alderson-Broaddus in five innings of work. She gave up three runs on six hits.

The Lady Battlers will entertain Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday.

Davis & Elkins will play host to Trevecca Nazarene the same afternoon.
