Lady Senators get past OVU

ELKINS — Davis & Elkins overcame a slow start to rally past Ohio Valley University, 14-12, Saturday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action at Nuttall Field.

The Lady Senators, who ended the regular season with an 11-6 overall mark and 3-4 league log, saw the visitors storm out to a 5-0 lead and an 8-5 advantage at intermission.

Davis & Elkins took its first lead of the contest with 15:18 remaining in regulation as Angelina Horan, who had five goals in the game, gave the hosts a 12-11 lead.

Ryan Sumner followed that up with her seventh score of the contest and Horan found the back of the net again with 7:11 left to play as the Lady Senators extended the lead to 14-11 to ice the win.

Hanna Bond and Seana Soika had the other scores in the game for D&E.

Kellee Washington led Ohio Valley, which outshot the Lady Senators 32-28, with three goals.

Kayla Stewart, Victoria Cross and Morgan Perrone followed with two scores each.

Lady Battlers swept

PHILIPPI — The Alderson Broaddus softball team dropped two games to G-MAC leader Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday.

The Trojans took the opener, 5-0, and claimed a 10-1 win in the nightcap.

The first game of the day was a pitching duel for the first three innings before the Trojans took control.

Jazmine Martin led the Battlers in hits, going 4 for 5 on the day, while Peyton Barr went 2 for 4 and Maura Mallon tallied two hits and one RBI.

Emily Rhoades was the staring pitcher in the first game and Caitlin Winkler started the nightcap. Both were effective early,
