Tucker falls on the road in slugfest

BAKER – The Tucker County softball team dropped a 13-11 slugfest to East Hardy on Thursday.

The Lady Mountain Lions trailed 3-0 before scoring four times in the second inning on RBIs from Hailey Tuttle, Cheyenne Gooden, Erin Cassidy and starting pitcher Lauren Cockerham.

After the Lady Cougars regained a 5-4 lead in the home-half of the second, Tucker County responded with four runs in the third as Gracie Rapp and Anna DiBacco cracked back-to-back doubles, Mckinley Murphy had an RBI sacrifice and Cassidy and Cockerham RBI singles.

In the fourth, the Lady Mountain Lions made it 11-5 when Tuttle walked and later scored, Gooden followed with an RBI double to plate Kristen Hicks and Cassidy’s single scored Aliyah Plum.

But East Hardy erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

The Lady Cougars added an insurance run in the sixth.

Gracie Filler tripled in the seventh for Tucker County but was stranded.

The Lady Mountain Lions had 16 hits in the game. Tuttle, Gooden and Cassidy had three hits apiece and Cockerham and DiBacco two each.

Cockerham struck out eight on the mound.

Tucker County will host Preston at 5 p.m. Monday for a doubleheader.
