District 8 play begins today
Elkins, TV earn byes, Belington battles Braxton today at Flatwoods
FLATWOODS — Elkins and Tygarts Valley both received first-round byes for the 11-12 year-old District 8 All-Star Tournament that begins today at the Braxton County Little League Complex.
Belington and Braxton County will get the action started today when they square of at 2 p.m. Summersville and Cowen will play the second contest at 4:30 p.m.
Tygarts Valley will play the winner of today’s first game at 2 p.m. Sunday. Elkins will then play the second game on Sunday against the Summersville-Cowen winner at 4:30 p.m. The tournament is double elimination with the champion advancing to the Little League State Tournament in South Charleston.
Team members for Elkins are Alexander Broschart, Addison Crawford, Mason Digman, Jude Evick, Dylan Fortney, Jayden Harding, Andrew Hinzman, Dylan Hinzman, Emory Jack, Aiden Lambert, Kalaeb McCauley, Drayden Watson, and Levi Workman.
The team manager is Josh Simmons and he will be assisted by Jamie Broschart and Shawn Watson.
Tygarts Valley’s roster consists of Jacob Wamsley, Kendall Armstrong, Dayton George, Avery Row-Sponaugle, Austin Teter, Marcus Radar, Ian Harris, Wade Cabaniss, Kaden Moore, Kailen Yokum, Aaron Lanham and Adam Woods.
The team is managed by Justin Armstrong.
Josh Teter and Jason Harris are assistant coaches for Tygart Valley.
“Having the bye in the tournament is a plus, especially when it comes to our pitching,” Tygarts Valley manager Justin Armstrong said. “Overall we have a really good team and I think this group of kids has a good chance of winning this thing.”
