Locals compete in Virginia High School Mountain Bike race series

Two youth from Elkins and three from Tucker County competed this spring in the Virginia High School Mountain Bike race series.

The races were held in April through May and the five race series took place in different parts of Virginia. The races where held at the Miller School of Albermarle, Woodbery Forest School, Stokesville Campground, Massanutten Resort Western Slope, and Blue Ridge School.

The series has elementary school, middle school, junior varsity and varsity divisions. Ashton White, a seventh grader, competed in the Middle School Boys Division and had two top ten finishes and for the series total was ranked 13th out of 81.

Alyssa White, a fifth grader, raced the Elementary Girls Division and won all five of the races and was the VAHS Elementary Series Leader and Virginia State Champion.

Zanna Logar, a fifth grader, raced the Elementary Girls Division and competed in four races during the season.

She received a fifth place finish at the State Championship Race and was ranked sixth out of 31 for the series.

Raina Logar, a fourth grader, competed in the Elementary Girls Division and was ranked eighth out of 31 for the series.

Delaney Stull, a fourth grader, also competed in the Elementary Girls Division and earned an 11th and 16th place finishes out of 31 athletes.

Ashton and Alyssa White will be competing in the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships this summer in Winter Park Colorado.
