McDonald’s moves to title tilt

Tourney’s top seed rallies past Citizens Bank of West Virginia, 8-7

ELKINS — McDonald’s rallied from a 7-2 deficit to knock off Citizens Bank of West Virginia, 8-7, Friday night in Elkins Elks Babe Ruth Fuzz Jones City Tournament at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

The tourney’s top seed advances to today’s championship game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will face the winner of today’s 1 p.m. elimination contest between Citizens National Bank of West Virginia and Davis Trust Company, which eliminated Elkins Fordland, 14-4, in Friday’s late game.

McDonald’s has yet to lose in the double-elimination tournament. A second championship game will be held on Sunday, if necessary.

Citizens led 7-2 before McDonald’s plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game.

McDonald’s then took the lead an inning later when Riley Tackett and Brandon Bennett reached on errors to start the rally.

After a flyout, Ethan Kirk laced a single to plate Tackett with the eventual game-winning run.

Kirk notched the win for McDonald’s in three innings pitched. Tackett started and pitched the first four innings.

Tackett finished with a hit and three runs scored at the plate.

Bennett, Matthew Pratt, Seth Currence, Garrett Gibson and Kirk all added hits for McDonald’s.

Nick Barrickman, Andrew D’Angelo and Owen Haddix all pitched for Citizens Bank of West Virginia.

Barrickman had a triple and scored two runs to lead Citizens at the dish. Austyn Fletcher, Dakota Stewart, Trent Wilfong, Gabe Skidmore and D’Angelo all tallied singles.

Austin Bolyard chipped in with two stolen bases and two runs scored.

In Friday’s late game, Davis Trust Company erupted for 11 runs over the fifth and sixth innings to stay alive.

Jayden Herron and Nick Hamrick both had doubles in an eight-run sixth inning.
