Rain washes out tourney play

ELKINS — Thunderstorms that moved through the area late Monday afternoon forced the postponements of several area youth baseball games and tournaments.

The Elkins Elks Babe Ruth League’s Fuzz Jones City Tournament, which is being played at Robin Harvey Memorial Field, had play halted during the opening game of the tourney.

Broughton’s Sports was battling Davis Trust when rain and lightning forced the game to be stopped in the sixth inning.

Davis Trust has a 9-0 lead in the contest, which will resume play today at 5:30 p.m. The second game Monday between Allegheny Insurance and Elkins Fordland was washed out completely. That contest will be played today at 7 p.m.

The Little League District 8 Tournament in Summersville had all of its games postponed on Monday.

Elkins matchup with Belington was pushed back until today at 8:30 p.m. Tygarts Valley’s game against Summersville will now be played Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
